Little did we know that there is no XDCAM HD codec in FCP that is 720p at 23.98, however that is a setting that is available on on the PDW-700 camera.
We had a PDW-700 join us on an otherwise DVCPRO HD 720p24 documentary, and now we're finding that FCP imports the footage as 59.94. (We know; we didn't test it.) The Sony XDCAM plug-in import tool confirms that the original footage is 23.98 through the following identifiers:
Vid Format: MPEG HD
Bit Rate: 50
Frame Rate: 59.94p (23.98p)
Size: 1280 x 720
It goes on to show the codec that the imported footage will be assigned as:
Apple XDCAM HD422 720p60 (50 Mb/s CBR)
Indeed, the footage in FCP is 59.94 and it includes a 3:2 repeated frame cadence.
We understand that we can reverse telecine in Compressor, however that seems to introduce some stutter. Also, re-importing is available to us an option (we're not that far along).
What is the simplest solution for getting FCP to see XDCAM HD 720p 59.94 (23.98) as an actual 23.98 frame rate instead of 59.94?
Can we have any influence over the chosen codec upon import?
Can we have it automatically convert to DVCPRO HD 720p24 during the import process?
If not, can we have it convert to XDCAM HD 1080p24 (a codec that does exist) during the import process?
