SCSI is pretty much gone. All hard drives are SATA. CalDigit VR is good. MaxxDigital Edit Vault too. G-Drive from G Technology.

I use a 2.5" SATA drive based enclosure that I put together myself. It can be self powered using a USB-2 port on your MacBook Pro or E-SATA with an Express-34 card adapter. e-SATA is much faster than USB.
There are many solution for this enclosure. I used one from ULTRA products that cost me about $25.00

what format of video will you be editing? does your macbook pro have an Express-34 card slot?

I will be editing SD video mostly 24fps from dvx 100b's... My Macbook does have the express card interface.

Thanks to all!

You can buy 1TB raid drive (with 2 500Gb drives in). If you run it as raid 1 you get speed advantages although not absolute security. I got mine of ebay for less than £200. Very easy to set up. You can daisy chain other Firewire 800 drives through it if you wish.
Matt.

G-Tech G-Raid (great value at 2Tb) - will also work with eSATA if you get an expresscard interface, but you won't need it.

Also Caldigital VR are well rated (as well as ones mentioned by Shane).

Don't buy Lacie or WD - they are not well built enough for laptop mobile use.

Personally - it's hard to beat the price on G-Raids for pro use. If you've got the cash, get the g-raid mini which is bus-powered. With all G-Raids, get the 7200rpm ones. The G-drives are single drive - fine, but not as quick.

After intensive use for a whole 18 months without a glitch I would recommend the Sonnet Fusion F2. I have the 640 Go but there is a 1To version now.

Hope this helps,

Patrice
