Transcoding Canon 7D 60fps footage into 24fps?

Good Morning,

What would be the best way to do this transcode? I know to use Compressor to batch all of my footage into ProRes HQ for FCP editing but I am just curious as to what method (i.e. cinema tools) people recommend for this process.

thanks in advance

sean

Cinema tools, batch conform. Easy as pie. Well, maybe not quite that easy. But easy and quick.

Just to be clear, if you've already transcoded the 60p material into ProRes, then you won't need to transcode again. Transcode refers to the changing of codecs and/or resolution. If you're just changing frame rate, then conform is the word you're looking at.

Also, unless you're working with 2K, 3K or 4K files -- and you're not -- Prores HQ is overkill and a waste of valuable storage. Normal ProRes 422 is perfectly fine.

March 17th will see the release of the Canon plugin for Log & Transfer, so that will be the easiest way to do it from then.

Except for the fact that Log and Transfer will not let you conform your media. Cinema tools is the best and easiest way to do that.

Do you want to slow the footage down or do you want it to play at the same speed? If you want to slow it down you can use Cinema Tools after you transcode in Compressor.

If you want it to play at the same speed, look down 7 threads below this one to see what I advised Wiremu Harpuka about using Compressor to transcode from 30P to 25P.
