FCP capturing conflict
on Jan 28, 2010 at 4:35:31 pm

I recently went to shoot a media event with two Sony mini DV 1080i cameras (HDR-FX1, and HVR-V1U). In the rush I ended up using old tapes and recording over older footage.

The problem started when I went to capture the footage into FCP (6.0.6). It seemed at first that, although I followed the same reliable formulas I've always used for connecting and capturing, that FCP didn't see the cameras (tried both, and different fire wire cables) but it actually sees the footage after the most current shoots. It just would not recognize the footage I needed from the event. I ended up bringing it in through iMovie and importing the video into FCP, took a while but with a deadline looming, it got me there.

Can anyone offer advice regarding my sin... was it using old tapes period? Time code conflicts? I think I saw in one of FCP's error dialogs something about a 'reel setting'? Although I don't believe any settings were altered between shoots.

Any feedback is appreciated.
