color correction problem with XdcamEx footage
on Dec 27, 2009 at 5:44:49 pm

Hi, everyone.

I am doing some editing with FCP 6.0.6. I use filters--color correction to some footage and once i did that, their edges will be sawtoothed, even i render them. And when i export them, they still appear to be sawtoothed. Once i remove the color correction filter away, they will be all right.

So, what's the problem here? I just can't correct the color here?

Many thanks.

XDCam is one of those codecs that uses very low color sampling. You could try adding some color smoothing (also known as chroma smoothing) in front of the color correction to reduce the jaggies.

Look under Effects>Video Filters>Key>Color Smooting- 4:1:1. The 4:2:2 version is for codecs like DVCPro HD or ProRes that have better color sampling.

If you're not satisfied with the result, try downloading the demo Nattress Big Box of Tricks and see if his G Chroma Smoother works any better for you.
