FCP Studio vs FCExpress HD

configuring a 17" macbook pro for off line editing with either a GTech eSata or LaCie FW800 drive. I would love feedback if FCexpress HD is enough or should I go the whole Studio route, all I want to do is create offlines for the online editors.
I edit Pal/NTSC DV and HD for the occasional feature.

I think the biggest advantage of FCP is the Batch Capture where you can log your footage and then it will run through the tape and import just the footage you selected.

Any FCE project can be opened with a corresponding or later version of FCP. But not vice versa. FCE cannot, in most cases, open an FCP project.

All the best,

I think it is important for you to understand that FCE is EXTREMELY limited on the formats of video you can work with.

FCE can work with DV and Apple Intermediate Codec ONLY.

While those codecs are fine for beginners and basic things, there are several more advanced codecs that FCP can handle. ProRes and DVCProHD for example. These advanced formats are much better for preserving quality, especially when graphics are in your videos.

There are no "technical solutions" to your "artistic problems".
Don't let technology get in the way of your creativity!
