Accidently put HDV clips in DV timeline.How do I get them back HDV?
on Dec 8, 2009 at 5:28:08 am

Hi

I have taken over a FCP project started by someone else.
And the project is not at all managed well.

I had to create a new sequence and put shots from older sequence.
The project was set to DV-PAL and hence the new sequence was also DV Pal.

After copying some shots the new sequence I realised that the shots are in HDV format.

Now what shall I do to get the sequence again in HDV format?

I tried changing the sequence settings to that of HDV sequence but then the video resizes and in motion tab it shows size at 50.
And when I resize it to 100 it is distorted.
Also it ads a field shift filter.

Pleas Help

Create an HDV sequence which matches your source clip settings.
Copy and paste the clips from the SD sequence to it.
Perform a match frame from the new sequence on each shot then immediately use the "replace edit" command.

Once you put the HDV in the SD sequence, those clips became SD... even if you copy them to a properly set up sequence, they will still not reside in there as native clips. So replace them with the original using that method described, and it goes pretty fast actually.

@Jerry
The clips are in their native format only.
I have verified this by right clicking>Item properties in the SD sequence.

@Andy
I got another solution from net. It says to remove distort attribute by selecting all the clips.

Is it the same thing as conform to sequence?

Yes sort of. "Remove Attributes" was a great trick for fixing these kinds of issues but "Conform to Sequence" is not a trick at all, it is a function designed specifically for this situation. You need to remove scale, distortion and the shift fields filter if and where applied inappropriately ...thats exactly what "Conform to Sequence" will do in your case.

Hope it helps

You're almost there ... you've changed your sequence to HDV so that ot matches your sources yes? So now just select all (with timeline active, press Cmd-A) ... then choose Modify menu > Conform to Sequence ... everything should be fine after that.

Best
Andy
