Capture freezes in FCP with multibridge
on Dec 6, 2009 at 5:10:30 pm

System; Apple 8core 12 gb RAM
Capturing Apple ProRes 422
Black Magix Multibridge Eclipse

I am capturing in FCP capture from a Vialta HD telecine. When capturing, using capture now, there are some instances when the image in the capture window freezes for a second. When this happens the clip has a jump cut in it with a break in the audio. All audio after this brake is out of sync with the picture.

I am using an eSata raid 0 with 1.9TB left on a 3TB raid.

I need help
Thanks in advance

You're dropping frames. Typically this is an issue with your storage not keeping up with the data stream from the capture. What format are you trying to capture to from the telecine? What speed is your RAID testing out at?

I'm not a fan of eSATA RAID arrays, the host cards don't always deliver very good sustained speeds. You should look into using a SAS controller from ATTO or Areca with a compatible RAID. The vendors that advertise drive arrays here on the COW all make better arrays than your typical eSATA.

Post production is not an afterthought!

Thanks Arnie.

I am capturing Apple ProRes 422 HQ 1080 59.94. I don't know if I have fixed this but today I wiped the drive clean and reformatted. I trashed preferences in FCP. I did 2x20 min reels transfer with no dropped frames.

My eSata run test was;
Disk read 235 MB/s Disk write 200 MB/s
8 bit HD 1080 Read 59 Write 50
10 bit HD 1080 Read 44 Write 37

Do you think I have solved the problem?
