Final Cut Pro 6 dropped frames
on Nov 25, 2009 at 7:48:17 pm

Dudes I've been searching the net, tutorials and forums with no luck so far. Need help!
Mac Book, FCP 6, MiniDV, SD PAL.
I'm trying to "log and capture" as usual, "capture now". Starts capturing and seems to stop at some points for 1 or 2 frames (like jumps) and keeps on going. When I play my footage back seems to have dropped frames, as a short still frame and then some missing ones.
On the user preferences that "Report dropped frames during playback" is unchecked, "Abort ETT..." is checked...
The thing is on the tape doesn't happen (tryied out head cleaner as well) and seems to happen on the same points when I Log&C.
I wasn't happening before.
Any idea?
Thanks

What type of hard drives are you capturing to?

Thanks Zane for replaying.

I'm capturing to an external disk, Freecom 320GB, with 54GB free space.
My "Final Cut Pro documents folder" is there.
I already trashed FCP preferences last night, set up new configuration, today the capturing seemed to be working a bit better (still this stops or dropped frames, but not so often) but... no way!!!
I uploaded new footage, edited the movie which was already funny as when I was adding a transition and adjusting it instead of the clip to whom I was applying it I was previewing different clips or frames!!!
Anyway I adjusted the transitions, was looking good, export to QuickTime and when I play the movie you can see a lot of frames out of place, after one transition again the previous clip... a mess...
I have Snow Leopard, FCP 6 and Quicktime Player 7, may it be QT the problem?

Thanks in advance

[Anna Clavero] "I'm capturing to an external disk"

And that external disk is connected to the computer how?
And how is the drive formatted?

Conected by USB.
Formatted you mean MS-DOS (FAT32)?
Sorry a bit new on all of this... :S
But it was working perfectly before... just started happening a few days ago (when I got my new job as underwater videographer).
I'm capturing now with iMovie and no problem.

[Anna Clavero] "Conected by USB.

Double whammy.

USB is no good for video editing, it works via bursts of data and therefore cannot sustain the high data rates needed for video editing.

Fat32 is an archaic drive format that has speed limitations and more importantly file size limits.

Ok, knew about USB but...
Why until now it's been working OK?
What's your recommend then?

[Anna Clavero] "Ok, knew about USB but... "

But what, if you knew then why not mention it in your post, it took me probing multiple times asking to find out. We are not at your computer and so we only know what you tell us.

[Anna Clavero] "Why until now it's been working OK? "

You were lucky. Im betting you now have something else connected via USB, another problem with USB is the more things you have connected via USB the slower USB will work.

[Anna Clavero] "What's your recommend then? "

FireWire at the bare minimum.
