XDCam HD to ProRes 422 transcoding failed.
on Nov 20, 2009 at 5:54:03 am

Hi,

I have some failed transcodings (Quicktime error: corrupted data) from XDCam HD to ProRes 422 under Compressor although the original footage played fine in FCP.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers !

Hi Darth,
Try other application: Fc or MPEG Streamclip.

Thanks Rafael.

MPEG Streamclip saves the day. :)

Mpeg Streamclip works fine but sadly the timecode info is no longer in the transcoded clips.

Explain the steps you are taking to do this.

Are you importing the clips one at a time and selecting the ProRes 422 preset?

You could use Media Manager to transcode your media for you.

If you have a capture card, just recapture everything as ProRes 422, but be careful that your video does stay in the 1440x1080 ratio. ProRes 422 in the 1440x0180 ratio is very slow to work with.

I am using Compressor droplet with ProRes 422 codec selected .

Few hundred clips went thru with no problems except for a few.

Confirmed nothing wrong with these few as they played fine on FCP XDcam HD timeline.

Are you compressing these clips to ProRes 422, then placing them in an XDCAM HD timeline?

You should be using a ProRes 422 timeline for these compressed clips.

[Darth Mel] "Few hundred clips went thru with no problems except for a few. "

Well, just run these clips thru again. Remember, we are using computers and computers will "brain fart" from time to time. If you ran a few hundred clips thru and only a select few came up corrupted, I'd say that wasn't bad at all.

I've done compressions that gave me headaches from the start.

One more thing, XDCAM HD is 1440x1080 and ProRes 422 is 1920x1080. Check to make sure that the ProRes 422 clips are converted correctly. Besides that, what version of FCP are you using?
