Is it possible to capture video in fcp with hard drive camera?
on Nov 19, 2009 at 8:47:43 am

I just bought a hard drive camera - Panasonic SDR-H60P - which has a USB connection. Is it possible to capture the video using fcp?

I used iMovie to initially capture the footage - shot in 16:9 format - but once I import the footage into fcp I get the following warning:

"The following media files are not optimized for Final Cut Pro.
It is highly recommended that you either recapture the media or use the Media Manager to create new copies of the files to improve their performance for multi-stream playback."

the footage then looks distorted on the timeline.

I am trying to recapture the media using Log and Capture but I can't seem to because my camera has a USB connection not a Firewire.
Or can I fix it in fcp using Media Manager as I already deleted some of the footage off the camera.

Any advice?
thanks!

Hi Perla,
iMovie converts everything in DV Stream or Apple intermediate Codec.
Try "Log and Transfer" in FC.
You may need to transcode the footage on transfer.
I guess the files are AVCHD. I don't know much about the workflow.
Google a pdf; "Final Cut Pro Professional Formats Workflows".
Everything is there.
Cheers,
rafael
