animated stills go bad in dvd

Just finished a film that includes a sequence of still photos, JPEGs, that have been animated. Look great on the timeline but when they are output as MPEG-2 and made into a DVD, they look terrible, all bit-mapped. How do I fix this?

Are you using a broadcast monitor to see if the the photo animation looks how you want it? What settings did you use to make your mepg-2?

I don't have a broadcast monitor.

For my MPEGs, I use one past CBR at 6.9

Not all of the stills goes bad.

If you can afford a Broadcast Monitor it is worth it. Things look different on a computer monitor, interlacing issues is a good example.

For DVD compression I recommend a Two Pass VBR. It is possible for Compressor to struggle with compressing an image and not other.... However, I don't think that is the problem.

Is the bad images flickering when you watch it? Or are they turning into big squares?
