How Can I Export My Video To A Size Of 20MB From FCP?!?!
on Oct 29, 2009 at 6:54:01 pm

Hi

I need to export a video I have edited in Final Cut Pro to a size of less than 20 MB. I have tried a number of different export settings and the lowest I can get the file size to is 26 MB and this makes the quality of the video really bad!

Can anybody tell me how to get my video down to 20 MB while still retaining a good quality of picture. The clips in my bin I've been using to edit are file type m1v.

I have a deadline for this video on Saturday so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

James

James,

There is no way anyone in the entire world could answer your question without knowing the running time of your project.

Also, what is the present file size? And what are the pixel dimensions?

Hi David

Sorry, I realize I should have included these things. The running time of my project is 1 minute 45 seconds and the size of the Final Cut Pro Project File is 532 KB.

I apologize for my naivety but how do I find out my pixel dimensions?

Thanks

James

I've tried H264 format but whether I set it to a low, medium or high quality the exported file always comes out at 42.6 MB...

At what pixel dimensions are you shooting for?

Also, you might want to try .mp4 using the h.264 compression.

Thanks a lot!

It seems to have worked using .mp4 with H.264 compression!

Hi James,
What you have to do is to use the "Limit data Rate to..", and also you need to use your head to do some maths.
You want a file of 105 seconds (1'45") that takes 20 Mb, so 20.000 KB.
That means that each second of your footage can take 190 KB.
This translated to data rate means 190 KB x 8 = 1.520 Kbps.
That is the data rate you have to set to get a 20MB file from a 1'45" seconds clip, whatever the size, fps or codec you choose.
If you are compressing audio too, you need to subtract the data rate of the audio from this data rate.
Cheers,
rafael
