Is there a way to do quick color checking in the field with just this...
on Oct 20, 2009 at 1:28:50 am

Hi, I am in Nepal and in the field and want to do some quick color checking and all I have with me is a macbookpro & XL1s, and I am working in new FCP. I was thinking there would be a way to monitor the video on a TV (that there are aplenty) using video out of the camera while firewired into FCP. I don't have the MA200 BNC shoulder rest with me. Is there a way? Thx!!!

ps. End product is DVD.

Hi Jiggy,
I don't know the Canon, but I guess it have three RCA connexion A/V IN/OUT.
The yellow RCA should be the Video Composite. IN/OUT.
Plug it to any TV with Video IN.
Cheers,
rafael

Yes Rafael, thx for that. Do you know the settings in FCP I need to make to make this so? Is it just as simple as as Audio/Video Settings: Device Control Preset: Firewire Pal and Video Playback Apple FireWire Pal (720x576)? Waiting for the cam to return from the shoot now to test - thx again for your help! btw, have you done this before: in lieu of not having a field monitor/cabling/MXO, etc?

Hi Jiggy,
That configuration is right.
Set" Play All Frames'.
Set the camera as VTR.
If you can not make appear the picture in the TV, have a look in the camera menu.
Cheers,
Rafael
PS: I've spend many years using a 21' SONY TV (cheap Trinitron).
Even if is a bad TV is better than noting.
