XD-CAM transfer - audio problems

I'm having an issue where I can hear our two distinct channels of sound in the original camera clip when I preview it in XD-CAM transfer - wireless lav in left channel, shotgun in right channel; but when we use the program to create a QT file, the resulting movie has shotgun mike in both channels. Or maybe it has mixed the channels, but it really doesn't sound like the wireless lav (crisp and clear voice) is in the mix.

Any thoughts?

Best,
Maria

FCP automatically assumes center pan on audio. If you need it split, you'll have to change the audio pan to right and left.

Thank you very much, Wayne. And does this information apply to when I'm viewing the clip just via the Quicktime program?

Anytime you drop in multiple channel of single audio tracks (Sony looks at this is mono audio), FCP will assume its mono audio and pan to the center. If you notice when you write back to disc that you have to make your sequence dual mono audio.

This applies all of the time.

The panning is first set when you import the clip. Choose to import the audio as mono tracks, or stereo pairs. Either in Log and Transfer or in Capture. Same thing.

I ALWAYS use stereo pairs. Can't even operate when things are mono discrete tracks. I'll turn them into mono tracks in the timeline and delete a channel if I have to do something like delete a boom mic or delete a lav mic channel as is described in this case.

Normally, this is true...

But I'm pretty sure that Maria is using XDHD because she said she was using the transfer program. If she were using the EX series then Log and Transfer would be used.

BTW, this also happens with HDV-ProRes conversion.
