Snow Leopard - Jumbo Frames

Hey everyone, I ran into an issue today while testing some Chelsio 10GB/s Ethernet adapters. I am attempting to setup Jumbo Frames, but am having some difficulty getting the settings to stick.

I went into System Preferences > Networks, selected the 10GB Adapter, clicked Advanced, and went to the Ethernet tab. There I set Configure to Manual, MTU to Custom, and entered 9000 into the field. I click OK, then Apply, however when I go back into Advanced, the MTU field has defaulted back to 1500. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this may be happening? Thanks.

Hi Dave,

You need to verify in 'ifconfig' command, The MTU size has been set but might not reflected in Mac GUI.

After setting up MTU=9000 through GUI as you did above, open a command terminal and try this.
#ifconfig cxgb

example: for me it works as

# ifconfig cxgb37 |grep -i MTU
cxgb37: flags=8863 mtu 9000

->Apert from these you can verify through tcpdump , if you run some traffic on Jumbo frame enabled interface, you will see bigger packets in sniffer e.g tcpdump/wireshark.

Let me know if it helps ...

David,
Try setting your Jumbo frames in Terminal. Make sure you sudo in as the root user. This should set it correctly. Then check with ifconfig to see if it stuck.

This is a bug in the GUI. They are probably set. You can see with ifconfig. It's an old bug. It just doesn't show the change.
