I have iMac and I'm using it to runn Final cut pro. I have connected Mybook WD HDD 4 TB trough firewire and I use it as a scratch disc. Everything was working OK last 3 months and today I have trouble opening the Final Cut project from Mybook. It runs very slow and it takes more then 20 min. to open the project. Imac has 8 Gb of RAM and 2.4 quadcore Intel processor, so resources are not he problem. On Mybook I have little more then 1 TB of material. Sometimes OS doesn't recognize Mybook at all.
I did OS software update for iMac.
What could be the problem, any ideas?

Fitst thing run disk utility on the drive, better yet run disk warrior on the drive.

I tried, but it doesn't work. Mac freezes when I try to run Disk Warrior software. Repair function in the disk utility didn't work, repair failed. What ever I do, computer freezes. Updating firmware is not possible also.
Sometimes My Book isn't recognized by mac, and if I get the icon on desktop, disk looks empty. Info shows that there is 1,9 TB material, but there is nothing on disk.
I connected it on mini-mac, no improvement.
How can I save data on this disk?

Looks like your your going to need to send the drive to a data recovery specialist, like Drive Savers. But be prepared, because it may cost you a pretty penny.
