RAID not reading drive
on May 19, 2010 at 6:19:38 pm

So, I thought I had a hardware failure in my array. I have a Mac Pro with 3 1TB Seagate drives in bays 2,3, and 4. My array disappeared from my OS. Open up the box, and the drive in bay 3 is kaput.

Or was it?

I hooked it up to an external dock and it fired up. So I swapped another drive into that bay and it seemed not to work.

At least, it doesn't show up in Disk Utility. DU seems to recognize a drive in bay 2 and 4, but not 3.

Is this a hardware problem (which is what I'm assuming)? And if so, is this the forum for this issue? And if the answer to that is yes, then any suggestions on what I should do?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the connections in the 3rd drive slot are bad which probably means you need a new logic board.

Make an appointment at your local apple store.

Hindsight is always 1080p

internal raids are not very reliable. They get too hot. Did you do a raid 5 raid or raid0. If you did A RAID 0 the data is gone. There is a software called techtool pro. It can localize your issue.

I hope this helps.

I think Zane could be right
