Finder running a bit slow
on Aug 3, 2009 at 9:43:05 pm

Over the past few days, I have noticed that the Finder is running slow on my MacPro (8 core 3.0 Ghz, pre2008).

Running all the latest software updates (10.5.7 et al).

Repaired permissions, zapped PRAM.

An example of running slow is that when browsing in column view, the columns are taking a long time (4-5 seconds) to show the contents.

ALso, when making a new folder with finder, I will hit the key command and it will give me a folder after the same delay, then instead of 'untitled folder' being highlighted so I can change the name, it is already deselected.

Any ideas? Not a deal breaker, but rather annoying.

I should add that I have a clone that exhibits the same problem. Seems to rule out any disk problems.

Can you test the clone drive on another Mac?
This would be definitive, as otherwise the clone would display via your current OS.
I would run DiskWarrior to fix your directories.

Unfortunately, I can't.

Disk Warrior freaks me out. Totally destroyed a few disks for me before. Can you run it on a boot disk?

DW didn't help. Still slow. This just doesn't 'feel' right.

Whew-

Found it with the help of another forum. Double click was set very slow so supposedly that slows down the Finder in Column view. Turned it back up to where I like it, and it works.

Never would have figured that out.

Amazingly fortunate, may I ask the genius Forum?
BTW, from your previous post,I have never heard of DW trashing drives, these must have been too far gone before using DW, care to elaborate?

Cheers
Alexander
