Icon position

Hi all,
The HD Icon won't stay in the top right of the desktop.
OS 10.3.9 and 24 GB of HD space left. Repaired permissions, trashed prefs for
desktop, no change.
Any suggestions?

Cheers

Did you delete the .DStore file?

You can also set the finder to keep your desktop icons arranged by name, and snap them to grid...

did you already try the other options?

its a hidden file that should make you desktop settings stick, these files are in each folder desktop included... I would try the other options first, and then use sherlock to drag it to the trash, and see if that works, don't delete it until you know it solves the problem...

OK, can't "get info" on the Mac HD icon, desktop clears totally and then resets with this icon out of position again.
Archive and install OS 10.3 and 10.3.9 updater, or just re-install updater?

Oh thats what your trying to change... If I recall that requires more then get info and copy and paste, I don't think a reinstall is the problem...

No, I'm not trying to change the properties, that's what happens when I try and "get info" on the HD icon.

Hey! I'm not trying to copy and paste anything.

I'm NOT reinstalling, that is the definitive way out, but I'm looking for an easier way.
Please re-read my first post in this thread.

Personally if your only problem is that you can't get info on your HD, i'd leave it its not a big deal unless there is something you need in that get info panel...

but as far as I know all of that stuff can be looked at in the terminal, and other places without using the get info panel at all...

I've already told you the two easiest ways to get your HD icon to stay... setting your desktop to snap to grid and keep arranged by name...
try booting off you install disc verify the disc, not permissions... run plutil on your user library prefs folder, empty your cache folder in your library... or just reinstall... that will fix it...

Guess what,
Did an archive and install, update and repair permissions- no change!
