Anti-Virus Software
on Jan 11, 2006 at 7:28:17 pm

I've just upgraded to a G5 and realized that Virex no longer supports Mac systems. I talked to someone at Apple to see if there was a replacement software and they said they're now taking care of scrubbing emails at the front-end and there's nothing bundled anti-virus-wise with the Mac OS anymore. The guy I talked to did recommend CLAMXAV as a substitute he was using, if you want to be really 'anal.'

What are other people doing?

Many thanks for any and all responses.

[Maria Luisa Gambale] "What are other people doing?"

Mostly nothing, I would guess. No viruses on OS X at all. However, there are some solutions that may, or may not, help when that one virus eventually does arrive on some of our Mac's.

Checkout these:

http://www.sophos.com/products/es/endpoint-server/sav-mac.html
or
http://www.intego.com/products/home.asp#mac
or
http://www.symantec.com/region/can/eng/product/nav/nav_mac/

One word of warning. Virus software is notorious for causing problems with other software, especially video editing and high-end applications/hardware.
