This isn't really an OSX problem, but I'm hoping someoe can throw light on starnge happings at work...
At the computer lab i work at at a college, we've had a recent spate of LaCie external Hds dying.
In all cases the power supplies have gone and in some cases the actual drive has gone. (i've been opening up the chassis and putting drives into chassis I know are OK).
We have 10 G5s but I think I have narrowwed one machine down as the only possible culpret, although this machine has quite happily mounted other drives without doing them damage. Does anyone know if its possible that a G5 might be blowing drives by surging power down a firewire cable. Or if it could be dodgy electrics in the lab (although all the drives had a 12v transformer attatched which will protect them - right?)
I've always found LaCies have a shelf life particularly if they're moved around alot, but three in a couple of weeks seems a bit excessive.
