No network after 10.4 upgrade...
on Oct 13, 2005 at 4:47:43 am

Hi.

Finally jumped ship and upgraded to tiger.

All fine but the single fact that I cannot get an IP adress through DHCP (or any other way BTW)
Iv'e ditched little snitch. Anything else?

(Not on Dual 2Ghz G5 with 6 Gb RAM, Air Port, Cinema HD 23" display, nVidia GF 6800, Final Cut Studio, Cubase SX3 OSX 10.4.2 but on a G3400 on the same switch...)

If i set a manual IP address, I'm able to connect to other machines on the network, but I still get no internet access.

Go figure!

And then suddenly it works for a while, and drops out again.

Have noone had networking problems with 10.4.2?

If youlook at the post below yours, I'm having the same exact problem. It has something to do with 10.4.2.

The first thing to try is to open your Network system preferences and click on the button at the bottom that says assist me. Then Click on the the Diagnostics button and proceed from there. The Network Diagnostic tool is very helpful for solving network/internet connection issues.

Thanks, Tony! I always seem to forget that wonderful tool. Isn't something, how easy it is to forget these things...

Did it several times.

But it sorta gets better...
Sometimes renewing the DHCP button does the trick (while at first I couldn't get anything done.)

Seems like a couple of restarts and rebuilt permissions fromnow, I might be there. -;))

Thanks anyway!

I would check to see if there is an updater for your switch/router/modem available. The manufacturer should have it on their website if there is one. Let us know if you're still having problems.

Now it's here. Now it's not...

I've swapped cabling and other fancy stuff to idiotcheck my setup. But still.

I think I already installed the latest updates the other day, but I'll look into that option.

Thanks!

Re: No network after 10.4 upgrade... Followup3 - No iChat video...
on Oct 14, 2005 at 4:40:20 pm

First I didn't think this was related to my other problems, but noone can chat with me -;)
When someone tries to accept my videostream, basically nothing happens and they get a msg that they didn't accept.

First I thought this wa a problem at the other side. But as I am the one who cannot be connected...

This definitely sounds like a fierwall/router problem! BUT exact same thing happens when I am directly logged into the modem.

Firewalls have been disabled on macs on both side of the connection.

This too started as i upgraded to Panther.

I think I'll have to try and do an archive and install over again, if Tiger lets me downgrade...
