Clock always resets!!
on Sep 16, 2005 at 9:26:40 pm

Hello,
My clock stopped working. Everytime I startup I get a message that my clock is set before so-and-so date and that this may cause certain applications to run erraticly. I have tried repeatly to reset the clock and then lock it to further changes. But no luck, every startup is the same. I NEED that clock because that how I find things and organize renders and exports and such. Please help!
Thanks, Chris

You don't say what kind of Mac you have. Here's the likely solution if it's a Powermac G5:

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Battery.pdf

If that's not what you have, take a look at that anyway. That's what you need to do, you'll just need slightly different directions to know where to look. Go to this page:

http://www.apple.com/support/

...find the type of computer you have and search for instructions on that. If you can't find a specific document about it, look in the user manual for your computer. (The manuals are available on that page too.)

Jeff,
Sorry! I have a G4 Dual 1ghzs. So, I have to replace a battery huh. I'll search for instructions on that.
Thanks, Chris

It happened after I plugged in a clients firewire drive. Its been running fine since then (4 weeks), I haven't replaced the battery yet.

Ok - let me see if I can find where I stashed my notes on that one... all I remember is that is was not a battery issue. Mine was a G4 dual 800. Are you running Final Cut Pro version 3 or the 1st verion of 4?

I think th enotes are on that computer (which is not at my poffice anymore... but let me look around).

Thanks,
Harry.

Thanks Harry!
I'm running FinalCutHD or 4.5 and DVDsp4 and all the Adobes. It all works perfectly. Just no clock.

As far as I remember you have three possible solutions/workarounds (assuming your battery is OK):

I agree with updating the system software - I think thats what fixed it in the end (along with a total wipe of the drive).
I hope to get to the room where the old machine is and see if any notes are still there.

Thanks,
Harry.
