Quicktime & Preview Apps (Can the Mac run without them?)
on Jul 8, 2005 at 6:45:48 pm

We are currently making a Mac/PC CD-ROM. On the PC side we have to check for and/or install Quicktime and Adobe Acrobat. On the Mac I know that Quicktime and Preview both are installed when the OS is installed. Is it possible to uninstall these programs and still be able to run the OS. (I know what you are going to say, Take them off and see what happens. But I don't want to screw the machine up.) Any knowledge is appreciated.

Preview is a viewer application for a number of formats, including PDF. As such you could delete it and not lose OS functionality.
Quicktime Playeris an application and could be deleted. However, Quicktime, overall, is comprised of a suite of many libraries files and extensions that live in the System folder and as such should not be casually tampered with.

Not clear as to why you'd really want to delete either of those things, though.

I am also curious as to why you would ask this question. Did you someone tell you there would be a reason to do this? I've never heard of anything like that.

I think he just wants to check if the user has deleted these apps.
