Software raided drives sometimes won't mount
on Apr 24, 2005 at 9:51:48 pm

Hi guys,

I recently opened up my Mac G4 (dual 1.2 gighertz) and swapped out some drives. I replaced my 80 gig ID Macintosh HD, with a 120 gig. I replaced a 120 gig ID data drive with a new 400 gig. What I kept the same were two 120 gig ID drives that were software raided together. The problem is, about 50% of the time I boot my computer my Raided drives no longer mount. I then reboot the computer and they then appear on the desktop. While, this is not a problem, that I can't work around, its hard to have confidence to put any video data on the raided drives, for fear that some day, they might stop mounting all together. I don't know if any of the new drives could be creating, this problem. I've heard that these 400 gig drives, suck a lot of power, and have heard that some people have had problems with them. But I thought that this would manifest as, a problem with the 400 Gig drive mounting, not others drives (like in my raid). Anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

Julian
