Particular - Bend Textured Polygons

Is there any way in particular (or another particle system) to bend the resultant textured polygons? I'm needing a look where the particles emit from a 3d space and bend as they head toward the camera and respond to gravity. Right now they look stiff and not life like at all. Is there any kind of particle deformer or stiffness type of controls?

Can you show a screenshot of what the particles look like so I understand better how the particles are oriented, and along which axis you want to bend them?

The first thing that comes to mind is that you can animate the particles themselves "bending" over time starting from birth, but they'll all do the same exact bending that way.

For instance, here the particle starts out as a long oval, gets bent with mesh warp mid-flight and straightens out again:
