Trapcode Form Question
on Jun 6, 2012 at 1:34:41 pm

Hello,

I am looking for the procedure on how to do basically, what's in this intro for Red Giant for TC Form 2.

http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/products/all/trapcode-form/

Specifically, how to do the outline of the car and transition to dust.

Does anyone know how to do this? Appreciate some direction.

Thanks,
Eric

I am pretty sure that uses Trapcode Form's new ability to create particles on a 3d object imported into After Effects. That is different than using form to create particles from a 2d image. If you look closely, when the camera rotates around, the particles are aligned in 3d space in the shape of a car. I would look on red giant tv for tutorials using the 3d obj import feature of Trapcode Form.

Michael,

Thanks. I ended up stumbling on this.

This resulted in another question regarding OBJ files. Is that a specific type file? I'm familiar with many extensions but not OBJ. What produces an OBJ file?

My 3D program is Lightwave 3D if that helps.

I've used .obj files in AE a lot with Invigorator. It should be as simple as 'saving as' from your 3D program. We always used Cinema 4D for this, but I'm sure Lightwave can do the same.

It might take some tweaking of the 3D object in Lightwave to get it optimised etc, but it should work.

All,

I've successfully figured out how to render the OBJ file now using Lightwave 3D. If anyone knows of the actual tutorial link (mentioned by Lonnie) I'd love to see it. What I posted was the little TC Form Demo but no tutorial.

Thanks ahead.
