Bokeh Effect for Particular

OK. I just love these idents from Oprah's OWN,

I would like to ask your ideas as to how would you create the particular effect from the video which customizes an animating bokeh. How do I create the realistically looking animated bokeh in AE?

Thanks in advance!

All the best!

If you are talking about the particles, then you can simulate this effect using a polygon in whatever shape you want to simulate the lens shutters (6,8, or more sided) and then animate lights going across that shape in a precomp. then use that precomp as a custom particle. Also, turn on depth of field for the camera and set your focal plane.

I truly appreciated your reply Mike!

One more thing, I am not sure what kind of light should I use for the customized polygon particle. Should I use the spot? or point? The lighting animation effect of the particle from OWN idents is really looking organic, and I wanted to achieve that kind of effect. It has this refraction sorta-looking bokeh. Any idea how do I make light create refraction or is there any other effect to apply just to achieve that kind of look?

Here's the video again for your convenience,

Please excuse my being NOOB.

Thanks again in advance Mike!

All the BEST!
