Trapcode Form Question
on Mar 23, 2011 at 10:41:08 pm

Hello,

I just purchased TC Form for CS5 and it's really pretty darn cool! I just a had a couple questions for the good folks here.

1. I noticed in most tutorials, it is probably using the earlier version of Form but I notice they used to have a preview window there and more important, a host of animation presets that I do not see in this version. Has that capability been removed?

2. On the tutorial side, I've been interested in the depth mattes and the Terminator Salvation piece that Aharon references during his TC Form City tutorial. Does anyone know of a tutorial that might explain more how they did that Terminator part? Just curious how much was actually done in Form. For example, the little moving data fields in red, I presume have nothing to do with form?

APpreciate any help.

Eric

I think you are seeing an older version of Particular. Particular used to have a preview screen, but was removed in Particular 2.0

The depth matte thing is pretty straight-forward. You can render a depth matte from any 3D app, and create a grayscale image sequence that maps surface distance from the camera. Then use that as a Z displacement map for Form.

If we can't get IF to chime in once more on this, I'll make sure to do a quick tip on it. In fact, I'll do one anyway. I'll post the link here when it is done.

Harry,

I appreciate it and look forward to seeing the quick tip. I would like to be able to do this with video in order to attempt to do something like in the Terminator video.

When you say any 3D application, I use Lightwave 3D 10 if that helps.

Oh, I meant to mention on my question about that preview thing. It's not so much that but they also removed all of those animation presets too? In one of the audio tutorials, they were very helpful because they had about 15 presets that you could immediately apply music or something to.

Thanks,

Eric

Hello Harry,

I don't recall seeing if you ever got around to the quick tip on depth mattes. Just thought I would bring this back to the surface. :) Appreciate it you can still do it.

Also, seperate question but still on TC Form. I was using the audio react feature and found all the presets that originally spawned this thread. Very cool.

My question is, is there a preset or do you know how to create an audio react that looks like the typical waveform?

I envision a waveform, dead center of screen with the left and right bleeding off in to a single line (sort of like a heartbeat/EKG thing). Appreciate any pointers on achieving that look.

Hello,

I was just checking back here and since I had a couple questions, I wanted to follow up on one specific one, regarding the animation presets in the earlier version of TC Form.

Does anyone know why they are no longer in the current version or hidden somewhere?

The animation presets for audio seemed really cool when I saw them in use in earlier tutorials.

Just curious.

Thanks,

Eric

They are still included, just not locked into the interface. Go to Effects & Presets and type "tf_" and you'll see all of the Trapcode Form presets that have shipped with previous versions, and a few more.

It was simply changed to make the presets independent of the UI.

Regarding the depth map example, I am working on it right now, just trying to come up with a good example.
