Add a text as mask path to a a light emitter travel

Ok, I'm looking for some help with making a 'flying' hand writing with particular.

I have a specific AE 3D scene setup in which I'd like to incorporate some particular flying handwritting. This handwritting has to go from point A to point B in my 3D scene (with specific XYZ coordinates for these two points)

So first I used the starting and ending XYZ coordinates of these two points to animate a light emitter trajectory.

Then I made the hand writing text myself using my tablet to obtain a mask path that follows the hand writting.

My first idea was to influence the light emitter trajectory using the mask path that I copied to a null; and then I linked the light emitter to this null.

But the hand writting does not influence enough the light emitter trajectory to see that it is actual hand writting...

My second attempt was to manually recreate the light emitter trajectory with keyframes using the mask path of the handwritting plus some offset, but this is becoming like mission impossible to get from my required starting and end point in XYZ.

If anybody has idea to do this maybe in a simpler way thanks for the help.

why not copy the captured handwriting keyframes to the light emitter or better yet, picwip the position of the light emitter to the null object?

If I simply copy the handwritten keyframes to the light emitter then I can't control anymore the starting and ending position of my emitter trajectory in my 3D scene (which is a requirement it goes from a specific A point to B point).

Same issue if I do the pickwip.

Assuming you are using 2d keyframing data from the capture, why not simply add the keyframe data to your existing move by adding it as an array? Set your keyframes for your move, then alt-click the stopwatch and type the following:

x=(picwip to your null position)[0];
y=(picwip to your null position)[1];
value+[x,y,0]

The [0] will pick the x value of your handwriting move, the [1] will pick the y value of your handwriting move and you are not adding any offset for z.

This actually might make for an interesting tutorial.

Mike, thanks for all this help, and this was indeed the solution I was hopping to implement.

But the issue is that the hand writting is by itself already a motion path and by adding it to another path we're destroying its integrity, hence the text is not readable anymore.

In other words I think the issue I have is that I'm trying to combine a motion path to another motion path and by doing so I mess up the writting. The trick would be to make the hand writting path go the same 'direction' as the emitter A to B path and simply interpolate the hand writting path to be the same 'distance to go' as the emitter A to B path.

But I'm sure this is the right thinking, except I'm missing something, possibly an expression could help.

I'm going to post a simple project demonstrating the issue I have more cleatly. But I agree with you, it could make a for a cool tutorial!

Here is the AE project file with a trapcode flying handwritting to illustrate the issue I have of having the emitter path be influenced by the handwritten mask path and still be able to go from point A to point B in 3D space.

One week after, I was curious to bump this thread a bit to see if anybody would have some ideas, even guesses, as how to accomplish this effect.

As Mike said this could make for a great tutorial in the end and I would be happy to take on making one with my project as an exemple.

But I first really need to solve this issue and so far all my attempts have been unsuccessful (arrays and other ideas).

Thanks for your help again,
