Essentially I am trying to create realiztic smoke that flows to the left of the frame like this does. This looks very real even though it supposed to be more magical. It has a 3D quality to it that I haven't matched myself. Did he use 3D lights to acheive this? Are there any tutorials that delve deep into this product. I'm looking for tutorials that really show how Particular can be used and not just an overview of the features it has. More real world applications than anything else. Closer to Andrew Kramer and Videocopilot.net than most other tutorials. Please any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, there is a lot going on in this post.

First, he drove several parameters of particular off the music using Soundkeys such as the emitter position, velocity, spin...
Secondly, the flow is most likely created by wind in one direction coupled with some turbulence.
Next, to create a smokey effect, you either need to use a bunch of particles and aux particles, or use an animated texture.

As for particular training and not just an overview, check out my master series dvd, Practical Particles, available here at Creative Cow. It has 12 in depth tutorials covering how to use Particular in a variety of ways. Also, check out Red Giant TV over at http://www.redgiantsoftware.com which has tutorials on Red Giant products such as Particular. There are some free Particular tutorials over there from people such as Aharon Raboniwitz, Harry Frank and myself.

Practical Particles is great, I've been using AE for almost 9 years & each of the Trapcode plugins since about the time they came out, and Mike's DVD offers a lot, for both the novice and the guy who's been around the block a few times. I can't reccommend it enough.

Mike, after viewing that videon on the Peder's site, I think I see a new tutorial for your next DVD.
