3D Stroke
on Dec 1, 2008 at 3:13:28 pm

Hi,

I need to create a light trail around a persons waist.

I have followed the Trapcode tutorial so far, using the demo version.

The layer that I have created is only 2D, even with the '3D layer' icon turned on. I am using a demo version of AE CS4. The Stroke is flat and is not 3D.

Please can anyone help?

Many Thanks,

Dan

Hey Daniel,
Unfortunately 3D stroke only operates within that 2D layer if I recall correctly. You'll have to use masks for the effect you are going for.

hi Daniel
There is one Complex answer.
The core idea is using Camera > Z Clip options

If you finished the 3D stroke Settting, then duplicate the layer.
And Put 'upStroke'layer on 'IMAGE layer', Z Clip front to 0, Z Clip back to 'distance - Camera to IMAGE layer'
And then, Put 'downStroke'layer down 'IMAGE layer', Z Clip front to 'distance - Camera to IMAGE layer', Z Clip back to just 30000...

If you want to animate your camera, the 'distance - Camera to IMAGE layer' can be expressed by Expression~.

like this,
length(thisComp.layer('IMAGE layer Name').transform.position, thisComp.layer('Camera 1').transform.position)

Some explain images is here

(Unfortunately, the language is korean)
