Particular - Vanishing Particles
on Oct 29, 2008 at 4:51:46 am

Hello,

I have a couple layers with Particular applied.
I'm making several bee swarms. Some following a motion path, others not.
I am using a custom particle of a precomp containing a flying bee.
The precomp was created with the last and first frame providing a loop.
Particular's Time Sampling is set to "Random - Loop."

Some particles vanish after a few moments and then return along their path.
I have set preroll to 100 and I am using the expression

thisComp.duration * 2

on Life as suggested by Harry J Frank on this thread:

http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/63/857573#857573

And yet my particles are not consistently "on."

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need to provide more info?

Thanks for reading.

Update: I followed this advice from Mylenium (to someone else) on the Toolfarm forum, but it didn't resolve the issue:

- Make sure the source comps for the custom particles have proper length. In
fact they should be just as long as the main comp. There is an issue with
particular adding blank frames when using the Split Clip and Random methods.

- Check for whether the Size over Life/ Opacity over Life is consistent. If
you use e.g. the random mode, it may naturally sometimes "flicker" so it
completely disappears.

- Check the comp framerates. If there's a mismatch, the custom particle may
be sampled at a time where it is blank based on the main comp's framerate.
