Keyframing Velocity in Particular
on Jun 12, 2007 at 1:16:24 pm

I am using Particular for a project that I am working on and I'm unable to keyframe Velocity when my Emitter is a layer grid (Particle birth time and lightness-size).

I have 100 particles/sec.

I basically want the particles to burst out from it's current position (velocity=0) to something much larger like 4000.

If say I leave my velocity at 1000 without keyframes, it emits particles on it's own but for maybe the first 15 frames and just stops there.

Is it just me? Am I doing something wrong?

Please help!!

When you set keyframes for Velocity you set the velocity for the particles born on that frame, you do not control the velocity of particles in flight.

4000 is extremely fast, you'll most likeley not even see them before they exit the frame.

What do you mean by "it just stops"? What stops?

Hi Peder,

Thanks for responding.

When it stops I meant to say that the particles freeze and stop moving (like a sudden pause in motion).

So if I can't animate velocity - does that mean I can't explode the particles that are currently making my image (that is made of particles) from my current position?

Thanks again!!

Well, you cannot retrospectively change the initial velocity of the particles.

You could maybe use Physics>Air>Spherical Field to break them apart at desired time.
