Figured I'd make a new thread about my 3D stoke problem
on May 29, 2007 at 3:08:59 pm

hello again, sorry for creating a new thread, but I feared my old one was too far down on the index and nobody would see it. But I'm trying to do the tutorial that QJet gave me with the 3D stroke effect I was going for which you can view about halfway down the index, but I dont know how to animate 3D stoke lines to float across the screen. I create paths with the pen tool, but when I go to use position key frames(which is what my dumbass tries to do), it moves the whole solid layer rather than just the mask path. What would be the correct way to make the 2 masks float independently across the screen?

I have AE 6.0, so what do you mean by animating the mask shape properties?

If you look again on the picture provided by QueJet you'll see keframes for "Mask Path":

This property was called "Mask Shape" in AE 6.0. To reveal it in the timeline, select the layer and hit the "m" key.

ahhh...that's the ticket. I could not find Mask Path for the life of me, except when I create mask shape keyframes, I dont get those drop down menus to change it to "subtract".

that, and everytime I create 2 seperate lines animating to where they intersect, I hit the "M" key and I get 3 masks on my timeline, and only 1 drop down menu. it's killing me.

Could this be a diffren't way AE 6 handles masks?

needless to say if your going to pull this off an understanding of your tool will be required, i haven't used 6.0 in so long...
