Pulsating lines in 3d space
on Feb 7, 2007 at 4:56:56 pm

hi,

I'm currently working on a school project involving some rendered footage from 3D max. I was asked to put some pulsating lines in the back of the scene that move along with the perspective of the camera (camera kinda makes a 360 degree turn -_-). Now i saw a tutorial from trapcode demonstrating 3d stroke but a little at a loss as to how to make the 3d stroke so that they follow lines horizontally and vertically. I mean lines that look as if they stretch into the horizons, unlike the pulses following the lines of a square in the example

Should i just make a huge square or is it possible just to use a line?

Yes, if you want lines, then use lines. In your case use horizontal ones, then tilt them into position using the Repeater and transform options in 3DStroke.

Thanks for the reply, though i wonder how to make a simple line in AE. I figured i'd make a solid and use the mask tool with 3D Stroke but that doesn't really work work out as i'd hope.

So i tried making a line in Illustrator but that didn't really work either

Draw a simple straight path using the pen tool - one start point, one endpoint, no fancies.
