ABC Logo = 3d Stroke?
on Sep 18, 2006 at 6:07:27 pm

I'm a film college student and one of my projects is to create a promo for a television network. Mine's going to be on Lost (my fav show) and thus I want to include ABC's fancy logo animation.

You can view a sample of their animation on the aBC website (http://www.abc.com), go to the video section, and watch any of their trailers. The animation is at the end.

I would love to attempt to create this or a similar animation from scratch. I imagine it uses 3D stroke and 3d layers to some clever combination. Any tips/ideas on how it's done?

Actually the circular line effect looks a bit like it's done using the Polar Coordinates filter applied on som simple animated lines. Of course you could also use 3D Stroke an draw out all mask shapes. The general design style visible on their website suggests that most of it is just circular elements of various types cloned randomly and made to overlap, so perhaps you could also use Particular and have custom shaped particles to beef up your animation.
