newbie particular question

How do you key when particular starts and stops in the middle of an animation? Playing with the valentine exmaple on the trapcode site, I am putting a keyframe of particle life with a value of 0. A few frames after a value of 4 and then few frames and a value of 0 again. When I attempt to render this, it's crashing particular and after effects.

What dumb thing am I doing?

Thanks.

when u mean stopping animation do you mean freezing it?if yes, you can do it by adding keys to physics-> physics team factor(in particular menu)..its deafult value is 1 if u key it at 0 animation will freeze.

Don't know... I doubt that your problems can be blamed on simply animating a few parameters. Particular is generally very stable. From a technique point I'm wondering why you are animating Life instead of Birth Rate? Animating the Life parameter would instantly skew the results since it affects all particles being born after the keyframe. Maybe Particular has some problem there, but that would need further testing.

Eccocid and Mylenium, thanks for the reply.

Mylenium, what you are saying makes sense.
Next question, though. I am not seeeing where the parameter is to adjust or key the birth rate.

[erikober] "I am not seeeing where the parameter is to adjust or key the birth rate."

It's the topmost parameter in Particular and called Particles/ sec. ;O)

That's the one I thought you might have been referring to. :)

Thanks, Mylenium. I finally getting something that is behaving the way I want.
