SWARM... SWARM

Hey,

Does anyone know how to create this type of realistic swarm.

(the part when it flies past the glass ball)

I'm using trapcodes particular, but I will try anything. HELP!!!

Not sure about the reflective look on the 'sphere' (could be spherize? or lens warp? -- other similar warp filter), but to make the particles appear as though they move around it, place a spherical influence (under physics>air) in your 3D scene and the particles will flow around it as they pass.

Here is a 15 minute example file to give you an idea where to start. I started with the flies swarm preset, added a spherical influence placed away from the camera, moved the particles 'through' the sphere causing them to warp around it - then added a masked adjustment layer with CC lens over the position of the spherical influence... I'm sure you could make it look a lot nicer with some additional tweaks, but this should get you going.

What a distasteful intro... Anyway, what gcole said is more than usable. I'd try to add up a little on the Air Resistance to make it look a bit more viscous.
