Lux Banding Issues
on Mar 9, 2006 at 11:31:07 am

Hi,
I'm trying to use Lux to create a Sun in a solar system and I'm having serious banding problems.
It looks like there are light "Doughnuts" around my sun.

I'm using AE 6.5 working at 16bpcm and HDTV comp size.

Idealy I am looking for a strong light with smooth falloff, I plan on adding some lens flare later.
I'm using a point light for my sun and have messed with just about every possible setting within Lux's parameters and my light's but still no luck.
Is there anything I can do? Or is this a limitation of the software?
Thanks
Dustin

Where do you see the banding?

If it's in the comp window, check that your display is set to Millions of Colors (32 or 24 bits per pixel).

If it's in the output movie, try another codec or try adjusting the settings for the codec so it does not produce banding.

Lux in itself produces near perfect 16bpc values that should not give visible banding, unless of course, the gradient is slower that 1 color level per pixel (very slow!). In that case all that can be done is to add noise.

Thanks a lot Peter,

as soon as I rendered a movie the banding was indeed gone. I guess it is a display issue.
Back to work!
