Particular: Freeze time, but...

I am using a layer emitter to create a concave grid of dots.
I have Layer RGB usage set to: Lightness - Velocity.
(Just like in the Particular documentation.)

I would like to freeze the particle system after a second when it is in a good concave shape.

BUT

I would like to animate other controls, like particle size, rotation etc.

using Physics Time Factor to "freeze" time freezes all the controls.

is there any way to do this?

Thanks!

Use Air Resistance to slow the particles down. You may need to ramp up the velocity to get them to move far enough in the first place though.

hmm, but air resistance is not keyframable, so the particles would always be moving, although very slowly?

got it! air resistance eventually stops the particles.

Thanks!

I did quite a nice starfield effect like that... blew the particles out at 10000 or whatever velocity, and within 25 frames they'd stopped, but miles away and were still sparkling. Looked really cool :)

yea, once you get your head around it, particular (and 3D stroke) can do all kinds of stuff that make people say:
"Wow, how'd you do that!"
