Maya 2014 Particle intense scene > Render crashes: stack overflow error
on Jul 22, 2017 at 7:45:46 pm

I'm rendering a particle intense scene that has previously rendered successfully. When I increased the particle size on the emitters; the render continually crashes on the same frame.

I'm running 64bit Maya 2014 on Windows 10 an AMD FX 9590 4.7 GHz eight-core processor with 32 GB DDR3 RAM and Nvidia Titian X 12 GB GPU

Rendering with Mental Ray creates a runtime exception and stack overflow error on frame 38 every time.

"PHEN 0.5 213 MB info : adskMayaVolumeEngine(): Processing 10 volume primitives.
PHEN 0.6 240 MB fatal 051109: runtime exception 0xc00000fd: stack overflow
PHEN 0.6 240 MB fatal 051109: runtime exception 0xc00000fd: stack overflow
PHEN 0.6 240 MB fatal 051109: runtime exception 0xc00000fd: stack overflow
PHEN 0.6 240 MB fatal 051109: runtime exception 0xc00000fd: stack overflow
// Maya exited with status 2"

Rendering with Maya Software creates a fatal error on frame 55 every time.

Result: M:/_AWM/Global/scenes/GE_12secsStop_IO_v01.0003__1352.mb
Fatal Error. Attempting to save in C:/Users/Jimmy3d/AppData/Local/Temp/Jimmy3d.20170722.1233.ma

The scene is using particle disk cache

The Maya batch renderer has successfully registered MR:

// Mental ray for Maya: using startup file C:/Program Files/Autodesk/mentalrayForMaya2014//maya.rayrc.
mental ray for Maya: setup
mental ray for Maya: initialize
mental ray: version 3.11.1.4, Jan 25 2013, revision 189569
mental ray for Maya: register extensions
// mental ray Node Factory: loaded
mental ray for Maya: successfully registered
mental ray for Maya: loading startup file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/mentalrayForMaya2014//maya.rayrc

I have increased MR physical memory limit (in the mentalrayGlobals) from the default 800 to 1600, but I don't really know what this option does?

I have also tried to manually set a memory limit to 22000 under the mental ray Batch Render Options box.

When I track the performance through task manager the CPU is normal using 45% - 90% on all 8 cores and the memory never goes above about 20% of available 21.8 GB memory.

I’m Stuck.

Thanks for your time, and help is REALLY appreciated!

Jimmy
