How to light the inside of a model only
on Jun 1, 2016 at 5:44:14 pm

Hello All,
I'm no expert at lighting, but the rules for lighting the exterior of an object do not seem to apply to the interior of the same object. I basically have a hollow star tetrahedron (but more complex) and a camera set up in the middle of it, while the object rotates. I have tried numerous lights in different locations and not much luck. I currently have a light at the top and bottom directed into its interior, but it doesn't make much of a difference. The renderer or the viewport 2.0 never display any facsimile of what it seems like it should look like. Maya Software Render works the best using production Quality settings. Mental Ray always renders black.

Are there some vast differences between Maya 2013 and 2016?

Eventually the faces will be different colors and textures. Later video footage will be mapped onto a surface inside the object (but first things first)
I'm using Maya 2016 SP6, Windows 10.

Thanks,
Robert :)

How do I tell?
I just created them the (normal) way.
I assume they are supposed to be 2-sided?
If so, can I "convert" them to a 2-sided poly if that is what is required?

Thank you :)
