Aspect ratio problem
on Apr 28, 2016 at 2:20:25 pm

Hi, I'm rendering an animation at 1920x1080,it's a static camera and only the centre of the screen changes so I thought I could save myself some render time by rendering the first frame then changing the render resolution to 750X1080 and then compositing in After effects, unfortunatley as soon as I change the horizontal resolution the resolution gate changes vertically as well as horizontally and the camera view is then different from the 1080 render.
Is there anyway to lock the cameras viewable area to the vertical resolution? Hope that makes sense.
Thanks,
Leavon.

Yes similar to AE region of interest.

I am sure there is a away cause Ive had to do it years ago.

Let me check for old MEL scripts.

Not the same script as I remember using but maybe give this a try:

Hi eric, thanks very much for your reply and for the script. I've loaded the mel but I can't see how I can specify a resolution, or accurately define an area of the screen to render using the script? I was hoping there would be a button on the camera that I could press to lock the vertical res. gate, maybe too much to hope for.

Not sure about the script havent tried it (maybe later I will).
How about rendering a full frame then bring into AE and check the numbers for the Region of Interest?
You can do that in Photoshop as well.
Yea sorry thats all I can contribute.

To add, use a background as film plate to get your region in Maya.

Ahh, I didn't realise that the region is defined by the marquee in the Render View, if it works with a batch render then that could do it. Thanks again for your help!
