Maya to After Effects - Need a Tutorial
on Dec 1, 2014 at 12:11:55 am

I've likely asked this before, but a new search yielded old replies circa 2010 and earlier).

I am using both Maya 2014 and 2015, so maybe there's a new way. I simply want to model a device in Maya with a screen that I can composite a video into in After Effects.

Can anyone provide the steps for this? Maybe the steps have changed since older versions.

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but this has worked for me in the past.
In Maya, make the screen you want to composite video onto a plain colour such as green or blue. You can than key this out in After Effects and track in what you want on the screen.

Hope this helps,

You can render the screen mesh with USE BACKGROUND SHADER which can accept reflections and shadows.
At times I would render the screen mesh on its own and use it as a TRACK MATTE in After Effects.
Just composite it all in one Comp this way you have some control on each layer.
