I create 8 planes and assign 8 lamberts with animated transparency.
In the "Frame offset" option, I put zero, then 1 on the next texture, then 2, 3, etc...
I duplicate the 8 planes several times to obtain this big tower, which I move under a large black plane to hide it. I keyframe Y position, move on the timeline by as many frames as there are planes in the tower, and then move the tower upward, until it's completely visible.
This way, even if each texture is animated, the planes look still and the tower seem to build itself while in fact it's coming out from the ground.
