Should I quit trying to create text with Maya?
on Dec 17, 2013 at 10:21:05 pm

Hello.

I searched for some solution to a trouble I have, and I'm about to end up with a very radical one: quit bumping my head into it.
When I create quick text in Maya with bevel plus, the system simply cannot create a good tassellation of the letters, even ones of very minimal shape. It doens't render correctly, it doesn't do anything but showing me in the viewport these big bold useless ghosts of 3D text.
I've tried every workaround I could find, but I didn't succeed.

Can you give me a hope, please?

Thanks, Alberto.

you need to push the tessellation up on the object.
in some cases if you import from Adobe Illustrator you have to fix the curve by adding more vertex points.
I usually do that around the tight spots.

A few things to try:

1. Change scale of your scene: Windows->Settings/Preferences->Preferences->Settings->Working Units->Linear (this most likely will not help, but it is worth a try)

2. Apply a basic lambert material to text you had generated.

3. Did you select in viewport: Shading->Smooth Shade All?

Can you proviede print-screen of options you choose to create text and result you get?
