Rendering an invisible object that still casts reflections

Hey Everybody. I'm looking for some advise on how to solve a problem I'm having.
The scene is a nighttime street scene and what I wanna do is render the layers of buildings separate from the street layer but have the buildings still cast reflections on the street. Make sense? I can post some pix to illustrate.

It is hard to give you specifics without looking at the scene, but here is the pipeline:

1. Select all your objects
2. Assign them to a render layer
3. Change the preset on the layer to Shadow
4. Render. The pass will have an alpha holdout for the shadow
