Error/bug "has no shading group associated with it."
on Oct 12, 2013 at 8:17:30 pm

I've been looking for a solution to this, but haven't found any threads that help me fix this.

I've got a mesh I'm working on that shows up fine on the screen, but when I go to render, nothing is visible. When I run render diagnostics, I get this:

"Starting diagnostics...

Known Problems/Limitations
--------------------------

Warnings
--------
- polySurfaceShape1 has no shading group associated with it. This
means that it will not be rendered. Please assign it to a shading group.

Speed/Memory Implications
-------------------------
- it can be useful to run your scene through "maya -optimizeRender"
before rendering. This can help optimize the scene for rendering.

Diagnostic Completed..."

I've tried replacing the object material, but that doesn't help. Oddly, when I make a subD proxy, the proxy shows just fine in the render window, but the source geometry doesn't.

HELP!
